Zi Collection, Page Position: Upper. Radical: One (yī). Kangxi Stroke Count: 2. Page 75, Number 05. Tang Rhymes (Tangyun) and Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) record the fanqie pronunciation as kǔ-hào, pronounced the same as kǎo. Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi) states that it represents breath wishing to expand and emerge, but being obstructed at the top by the horizontal line representing one.
