In The Expanded Dictionary of Rhymes (Guangyun) it is noted as a mallet.
According to the Regional Dialects (Fangyan), the pillar used for hanging silkworms is called a mallet in areas east of the pass, while in the state of Qi it is called yang.
Additionally, pronounced xiang. Also pronounced zang. The meaning is the same.
As for the character representing the fruit of the oak tree, it is sometimes written as a variant form (xiang), which is noted under the entry for oak.
