Pronounced gǔ. The appearance of flowing water. Identical to the character gǔ.
Verses of Chu (Chǔcí), Nine Chapters: Vast and boundless are the Yuan and Xiang rivers, their currents flowing swiftly. Wang Yi commentary: The appearance of flowing water.
Also refers to a rapid appearance.
Yang Xiong, Dialects (Fāngyán): Gu yao means to move rapidly. In regions outside of Southern Chu, people say gu, or they say yao.
Sima Xiangru, Rhapsody on the Shanglin Park (Shànglín fù): Bubbling and surging, gushing forth rapidly. Commentary: Bubbling and surging describes the rapid flow of water departing.
Also refers to a clean or pure appearance.
Wang Yanshou, Rhapsody on the Lingguang Hall of Lu (Lǔ língguāng diàn fù): Clean and bright, sparkling and brilliant. Commentary: Clean and pure appearance.
Also, gu yue describes a bright appearance.
He Yan, Rhapsody on the Jingfu Hall (Jǐngfú diàn fù): Arranged with sparse pillars, appearing bright and luminous.
Also, fu gu describes the appearance of flapping or agitated movement.
Yang Xiong, Rhapsody on the Sweet Springs (Gānquán fù): The curtains swell and puff with agitation, gradually becoming dim and deeply secluded.
