According to the Explaining and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to an abundance of clothing and goods. In the Book of Changes (Yijing), under the Jin hexagram: There is sincerity, abundance, and no blame.
It also means lenient or broad. In the Book of Documents (Shangshu), specifically the Announcement of Kang (Kang Gao): Make your administration broad, and thereby the people will be at peace. The commentary explains: Practicing a lenient administration will bring peace to the people.
It also means slow or leisurely. In the Discourses of the States (Guoyu): When the time for sacrifices arrives, distribute offerings in a relaxed and abundant manner.
Also, in poetic rhyme supplement, pronounced you. In the poems of Lu Ji: Greatly born is our successor, able to be bright and able to be refined. With flourishing virtue, deep and profound, his heaven-sent character is like jade, rich and abundant.
