Pronounced xuan.
As defined in Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it describes an exclamation of alarm or surprise, read like the word for clamor.
Xu Xuan says: In contemporary common usage, it is written differently as the word for noisy, which is incorrect.
According to Jade Chapter (Yupian), it means clamor, and is interchangeable with the word for uproar.
According to Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), it refers to the sound of calling out.
