According to Extensive Dictionary of Rhymes (Guangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), and Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), it is pronounced jiang. Shennong lived by the Jiang River and took it as his surname. His descendants include the states of Qi, Fu, Shen, Lü, Ji, Xu, Xiang, and Rui. There is also Bujiang, which is the name of a river. According to Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing), the Bujiang River is where the Black Water ends. According to Liu Zongyuan's Heaven Question (Tiandui), the abundant Black Water terminates at Bujiang.
