Pronounced he.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to the seasoning of flavors. According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), it is a vessel used for balancing the five flavors.
According to the Illustrations of Antiquities (Bogu Tu), there are fourteen such vessels in total. From the Shang dynasty, there are the Fu-Fu-Ding He and the Zhi-Ge-Fu-Gui He. From the Zhou dynasty, there are the Shan-Cong He, Jia-Zhong He, Dragon-Head He, Cloud-Thunder He, Three-Chi-Dragon He, Flood-Dragon-Chi-Dragon He, Qilin He, Chi-Dragon-Qiu-Dragon He, Grain-Pattern He, and Fine-Pattern Bear-Foot He. From the Han dynasty, there are the Phoenix He and the Chi-Dragon-Head Qiu-Dragon-Pattern He. Although some of their inscriptions refer to them as Yi, Zun, or You vessels, they all share the common meaning of harmonizing the five flavors.
Pronounced he (falling tone). The meaning is the same. According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is currently written as he (meaning harmony).
