According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it is the yiyu. In the Erya, Explaining Fishes (Erya), it says the fulyo is the yiyu. The commentary notes that it is the snail. In the Book of Etiquette and Ceremonial (Yili), in the commentary on the Earth Official Rites (Tuguanli), it mentions snail sauce and yiyu sauce. Also, in the Dialect (Fangyan) by Yang Xiong, a spider is called a yiyu. According to the Classified Chapters (Leipian), it is also pronounced you, with the same meaning.
