Yin Collection, Upper Volume Radical: Child (zǐ) Page 277, Entry 08 Pronounced jue. According to the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun) and the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced juyue, with a sound identical to jue. The Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi) interprets this as the shape of a body missing its left arm. The Boya states that jie-jue means short or small. According to the Wide Rhyme (Guangyun), it is pronounced jusong, with a sound identical to gong, referring to small insects in a well. According to the Wide Rhyme (Guangyun) and the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is also pronounced jiuwu, with a sound identical to that of the aforementioned. The meaning is the same. Note: In the Collection of Characters (Zihui), it is written as a variant form (jue), which is incorrect; it is now corrected. Research verification: The Boya states that jie-jue means short. We have carefully corrected the character to the primary form based on the original text.
