Pronounced gong (rising tone). According to Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to cupping the hands together. The form consists of the components for left and right hand. It has now evolved into the form gong. Yang Xiong states that gong represents two hands.

The head form is written as a combination of left hand and ten. Furthermore, the form represents cupping the hands, composed of left hand and right hand. The form meaning to pull or drag is a reversed writing of gong. The form is the ancient version of the character pan (to climb or grasp).
