Pronounced sheng
Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen): A measuring tube. Ten small measures equal one sheng.
Book of Han (Hanshu), Treatise on Harmonics and Calendrical Astronomy: The sheng is a measure for accumulation and joining. In ancient times, the upper diameter of the sheng was one inch, the lower diameter was six tenths of an inch, and its depth was eight tenths of an inch. Ten small measures make one he, and ten he make one sheng.
