Pronounced kuài. Identical to the term kuài (irrigation canal). According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to the flowing of water. A square of one hundred square miles is called a kuài, which is two fathoms wide and two fathoms deep. Also, as recorded in the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced huān. It means to moisten or soak.
