Pronounced wei.
Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen) states: High and uneven. Derived from the radical Mountain (shān), with gui as the phonetic component, level tone.
Erya (Erya): A rocky mountain topped with soil is called cui wei. Commentary: Describes a rocky mountain with soil on top.
Book of Odes (Shijing): Climbing that rugged peak.
Also describes a tall and large appearance. Ban Gu, Western Capital Rhapsody (Xidu Fu): Towering and rugged.
Also pronounced wei (rising tone).
Wei, the appearance of a mountain. Wang Yanshou, Rhapsody on the Lingguang Hall of Lu (Lu Lingguangdian Fu): Towering and rugged.
