Pronounced lì. It refers to comparison, category, or generalization. It also refers to a preface or explanatory notes. In the Preface to the Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan xu), it describes clarifying organizational principles by establishing categories. During the Later Wei dynasty, Zhang Wugui gathered students to explain the Zuo Commentary; the principles and organizational structures within were inexhaustible, which astonished the scholars.
Pronounced liè. It means to shield or obstruct.
