Pronounced kui (rising tone). Identical to the character meaning a half-step.
Broad Rhymes (Guangyun): Half a step is called a kui.
Jade Encyclopedia (Yupian): To lift one foot.
Classified Rhymes (Leipian): According to the Sima Methods of War (Sima Fa), whenever a person lifts one foot it is called a kui. A kui is three feet. Lifting two feet is called a bu. A bu is six feet.
Book of Rites (Liji): Therefore, the superior man does not forget filial piety for even a single step.
Sometimes written in variant forms (qing, tui, kui).
