According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui), and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), it is pronounced ji. It is the same as the character for a type of fish. According to the Materia Medica (Bencao), it is shaped like a carp, dark in color with a short body, a large belly, and a high back. In the poetry of Du Fu, there is a reference to fresh crucian carp sashimi with silver-thread ginger. Also, according to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), it is pronounced ji.
