Explanations of the Six Scripts (Liushu Gu): "In the Spring and Autumn period, there were two Yuns. The Yun in Ju was east of Lu; the one contended for by Ju and Lu was the eastern Yun. The one where the Duke awaited was the western Yun. Duke Wen fortified Zhu and Yun, and there is no mention of contention with Ju. By the time of Duke Cheng, Chu attacked Ju and entered Yun, which implies Yun was then a city of Ju. And the Yun fortified in the 4th year [of Duke Cheng] was the western Yun."
Also, a name for a prefecture. Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui): "It was the territory of ancient Yanzhou, a vassal state of Lu. In the Han dynasty, it became Dongping State, and in the Sui dynasty, Yunzhou was established."
Also, Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): "The name of Qingshui township in Henei."
Also, a surname. Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun): "A grandee of Lu, who received emoluments from Yun, later took it as a clan name."
Also, Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): Pronounced yú fēn qiè, the sound is yún. The meaning is the same.
Textual Correction: In the Annals of Lu (Chunqiu), under the 9th year of Duke Cheng: "Prince Yingqi of Chu led troops to attack Ju; Ju scattered, Chu *then* entered Yun." According to the original text, the character "suì" (遂) was carefully changed to "rén" (人).
