According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to the cracking of the feet. According to the Compilation of Characters (Leipian), it is synonymous with rough or chapped skin, also referring to the cracking of skin on the hands and feet. In the Biography of Zhao Chongguo in the History of the Former Han (Qianhan Shu), it is recorded: The soldiers were cold, and their hands and feet were chapped and frostbitten. In the Biography of Li Gan in the History of the Tang (Tang Shu), it states: The skin was frozen, chapped, and frostbitten. The commentary notes that this refers to frostbite cracks. The Golden Pot Character Examination (Jinhu Zikao) states that chapped frostbite is the same as chilblains. Also pronounced jun (falling tone). Also pronounced qun. The meaning is the same.
