According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen jiezi), it is a species of fish. Its skin has patterns, and it is produced in Dongyi County of Lelang Commandery. Capture and delivery of this fish to the Office of Imperial Manufactories began in the fourth year of the Divine Sparrow era. During the reign of King Cheng of Zhou, Yangzhou presented the yong fish as tribute. According to the Broad Elegance (Guangya), it is also a term for this fish. According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is the yong fish. In the Biography of Sima Xiangru in the History of the Former Han (Qianhan shu), it is written as yong, yong, qian, tuo. The commentary by Guo Pu states that the yong fish has colorful markings. In the Songs of Chu (Chuci), specifically the Great Summons (Dazhao), it is mentioned as yong, yong, duan, hu.
