According to the Book of Sounds and Rhymes (Guangyun), the Book of Rhymes Collected (Jiyun), and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), and as confirmed by the Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), the pronunciation is yu.
As cited in the Explanation of Words and Phrases (Shuowen), it refers to a fishing net.
As stated in the Literary Expositor (Erya), a net with bundled ropes is called a nine-fold net. A nine-fold net is a fishing net. The commentary notes that this refers to the hundred-pouch nets of the present day.
As stated in the Book of Odes (Shijing), in the section on the Customs of Bin (Binfeng), it mentions the fish of the nine-fold net. The commentary explains that the nine-fold net is a bundled net used for catching small fish.
