Ancient character form.
According to Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), Collection Rhyme (Jiyun), Rhyme Compilation (Yunhui), and Orthodox Rhyme (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is wu (falling tone).
According to Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it means to awaken. It is composed of the radical for heart, with wu providing the phonetic.
According to Records of Knowledge Through Reflection (Kunzhiji), to have no perception is called being lost; to have perception is called being awakened. It also means to enlighten others.
According to Treatise on Reaching Understanding (Dazhi) by Cui Yin, Tang Sui used his gray hair to enlighten the ruler of Qin.
It is also used interchangeably with the character for waking up (wu).
According to the Biography of Xiang Yu in Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), still not realizing or awakening.
