You Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Foot (zú) 跡; Kangxi strokes: 13; Page 1224, Entry 16 Guangyun (Broad Rhymes), Jiyun (Collected Rhymes), and Zhengyun (Correct Rhymes) state the pronunciation is ji. It is the same as the character for trace. Shiming (Explication of Names) states: Trace means accumulation. It is that which accumulates and moves forward. Leipian (Classified Chapters) states: Trace is the place where one walks. Additionally, in Yunbu (Supplement to the Rhymes), it is said to rhyme with lüe. Lu Ji, in his work Elaborated Linked Pearls (Yan lian zhu), writes: When the fire is strong, the smoke is faint; when the nature is full, the emotions are constrained. Therefore, the ruins of the Yin dynasty evoke the sorrow of sentient things, and the capital of Zhou holds no trace of lingering.
