According to Tangyun, the pronunciation is indicated by fanqie as ke-ba. According to Jiyun and Yunhui, it is indicated by fanqie as qiu-ba, sounding like qian in the entering tone. Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen) defines it as "cautious." Formed from the radical Strength (lì) with the sound component ji. From the "Announcement on Wine" in the Book of Documents (Shangshu): "You should diligently admonish the virtuous ministers of Yin." (Commentary: You should diligently and cautiously warn the virtuous ministers of the Yin dynasty, so they do not indulge in wine.) Also, in the Erya, "Explanations of Words" (Shigu), jie is defined as "firm." (Commentary: Jie means firm and secure.) Also, in Jiyun, the pronunciation is indicated by fanqie as qi-xia, sounding like jia. Boya defines it as "diligent." Also, in Jiyun, the pronunciation is indicated by fanqie as chi-ji, sounding like jie. The meaning is similar.
