Pronounced qi (falling tone). Same as the character for a type of caterpillar. In the Joint Verses of the South City by Han Yu: Skin scratched by thorns. Also, in the Materia Medica (Bencao): The blister beetle is also known as long-hao. Also, used in personal names. According to the Compendium of Materia Medica (Gangmu), the adopted son of Fu Jian, King of Qin, was named Hao.
Hao
Pronounced hao. A type of clam. In the Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui): It is also written as an oyster. According to the Sea of Documents (Pianhai): It is the oyster. According to the Materia Medica (Bencao): Initially grows by the sea like a fist-sized stone, gradually extending in four directions to a height of ten or twenty feet, adhering together like a mountain, commonly called oyster mountain. Han Yu poem: Oysters adhere to each other to form a mountain, hundreds and tens growing individually. Commentary: The shell is like stone. Also called oyster house. Also a place name. According to the History of the Five Dynasties (Wudai Shi): Pan Chongche defeated Wang Kui's troops at Haoshi.
