In the History of the Later Han (Houhan), Biography of Zhi Yun: To seek refuge in a place and teach. The commentary defines this as to live in reclusion.
Also, in the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), it is used interchangeably with the character pronounced pi (falling tone). In the Analects (Lunyu), avoid the world, avoid the place, avoid the words, and avoid the demeanor, all use the interchangeable form.
