Medical Texts (Fangshu): Children suffering from this malady first present with a mass the size of a coin that induces fever. It gradually grows to resemble a turtle or snake. Inside the liver, there are blood-filled apertures that connect throughout, and on the outside, blood vessels are coiled and fixed. These vessels run directly through to the spinal column and correspond to the navel on the underside, where the pulse is felt; this is the root of the malady.
