The History of Tang (Tangshu), Record of Taizong states: When Tang Taizong was four years old, a scholar saw him and remarked that he possessed the appearance of a dragon and a phoenix.
The History of Northern Wei (Houwei), Biography of Song Bian describes a voice and posture as being clear and pleasant.

In a poem by Han Yu, it is written: Regarding the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi (in comparison to ancient styles), one feels ashamed of pursuing an overly delicate and soft appearance.
