Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen): A mountain cliff. Xu Xuan says: Composed of the character for three mountains (pin), representing the shape of rocky cliffs connected together. Ji Kang, Rhapsody on the Zither (Qinfu): Winding and hidden in deep places, lofty and steep are the cliffs. Guo Pu, Rhapsody on the Yangtze River (Jiangfu): The jagged ridges form the rocky precipices.
Also a name of a city. Spring and Autumn Annals (Chunqiu), 13th year of Duke Ai: Zheng commander Han Da led the army to capture the Song forces at Yan.
