Pronounced sou.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it means to wash. Another source states that washing with the hands is called su, while washing with the feet is called huan. Additionally, according to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is the washing of raw silk.

To rinse the mouth. This is the same as the character meaning to rinse. Another interpretation is water that has become spoiled.

The name of a river. According to the Commentary on the Zuo (Zuozhuan), during the thirteenth year of Duke Cheng, they attacked our Su River. The commentary notes that the Su River emerges from Wenxi County in Hedong.
