Pronounced qi
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it is the navel.
According to the Correct Meaning of Characters (Zhengzitong), it is the part that connects the child at birth. After it is cut, it is called the umbilical cord. Because it is located in the middle between the heart and kidneys, faces the Spirit Gateway point (Shenque) in the front, and faces the Life Gate point (Mingmen) in the back, it is called the navel. It also carries the meaning of limitation or boundary.
According to the Explaining Names (Shiming), the navel is the limit, the place where the intestines terminate and are bounded.
According to the Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), it is also commonly written as qi.
According to the Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan), Book of Lord Zhuang, Year 6, if one does not plan early, the ruler will later bite his own navel.
Note: Qi and the navel are the same.
