Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Simple and Compound Characters) states: A pearl. Song Hong says: Pinh pearls come from the Huai River. Pin refers to a pearl that makes a sound. In the Book of Documents (Shangshu), specifically the Tribute of Yu (Yu Gong) chapter, it is written as such.
Pronounced pian.
The meaning is the same. In the Rhapsody on the Jingfu Palace (Jingfu Dian Fu) by He Yan, it is written: Hanging rings of pinh and resonant jade. The commentary notes: Pinh is pronounced pian, meaning a pearl.
