Pronounced luan (rising tone).
Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Characters and Analysis of Compound Characters): To be thin. Also, to cut meat into small pieces.
Zhengzitong (Correction of Character Comprehensiveness): To cut into chunks.
Book of Rites (Liji): Do not bolt roasted meat. Commentary: To bolt means to put an entire piece of meat in the mouth at once.
Book of Changes (Yijing): Commentary notes that dried meat refers to dried chunks of meat.
History of the Former Han (Qianhan shu): Commentary notes that to slice into a thousand pieces.
Book of Jin (Jin shu): When Emperor Yuan was seeking a husband for the Princess of Jinling, he said to Wang Xun that Xie Kun would be sufficient. Shortly after, Yuan Song wished to offer his daughter to Xie Kun. Wang Xun said: Do not touch the forbidden morsel.
Also, the belly of a fish is referred to as a piece of meat.
Book of Etiquette and Ceremonial (Yili): Commentary notes that when gutting a fish, the belly is sliced into large pieces for sacrifice.
