According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it means to change, and also refers to a twin birth. According to the Dialects (Fangyan) by Yang Zi, between the regions of Chen and Chu, when people or animals give birth to twins, it is called lizi. In the regions of Qin and Jin, it is called lianzi. From the mountain passes eastward, it is called luan. Also according to the Jade Chapters (Yupian) and the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), it is pronounced luan (level tone), with the same meaning.
