History of the Jin Dynasty (Jinshu), Biography of Liu Liu: When Liu Liu served as a high-ranking official, the right deputy director Fu Di read widely but did not understand the meanings of the texts. Liu Liu only read the Classic of the Way and Virtue (Laozi), and Fu Di often looked down upon him. Liu Liu said: You read books but have no understanding; one could say you are merely a bamboo box for holding books.
Sea Compendium (Haipian): A lu is used for holding cosmetics and face powder.
Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): Lu is sometimes written in a variant form (lu). It is commonly written as lu (a square bamboo container).
