Archaic script. According to the Extensive Dictionary of Sounds and Meanings (Guangyun), it is pronounced lou; according to the Collected Dictionary of Sounds and Meanings (Jiyun), it is pronounced lou. According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is a plow. According to the Correct Meaning Through (Zhengzitong), it is a tool for sowing seeds. Another definition is a seeder, shaped like a three-legged plow, with a sowing hopper placed in the middle to store seeds, drawn by oxen. One person operates the seeder, shaking it as they walk so that the seeds fall accordingly. Cui Shi stated: During the Han dynasty, Zhao Guo taught the people how to plow and cultivate; by his method, three plowshares shared one ox, and one person managed it, with sowing and pulling all prepared. In one day, one hundred qing could be sown. This refers to the seeder. Seen in Important Arts for the People's Welfare (Qimin Yaoshu). Also, according to the Collected Dictionary of Sounds and Meanings (Jiyun), pronounced lou (rising tone). Plowing a furrow is called lou. The Collected Dictionary of Sounds and Meanings (Jiyun) notes it is sometimes written in a variant form.
