Si Collection, Middle Volume. Radical: Split Wood (pán). Kangxi strokes: 9. Page 691, Entry 19.
Broad Rimes (Guangyun) states the pronunciation is ge. Collected Rimes (Jiyun) and Orthophony (Zhengyun) state the pronunciation is ge; it is pronounced the same as ge.
Broad Rimes (Guangyun) defines this as a tool used for mooring boats.
It also refers to Zangge, which is both a commandery name and a river name.
History of the Former Han (Qian Hanshu), Record of Nanyue, contains the passage: "descend the Zangge River."
Collected Rimes (Jiyun) states that this character was originally written as ge and is identical to a variant form. It is also used interchangeably with ke.
Note: According to Broad Rimes (Guangyun), it is identical to qiang. There is suspicion that qiang is an erroneous transcription of the character.
The character qiang should have been written with the radical yi, not the radical ge. In the eleven tang rhyme category, it is used interchangeably with the zang in Zangge and should not be identified with ge.
In the Compilation of Characters (Leipian), this character is written as a combination of pian and ke.
