Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), Rhyme Meetings (Yunhui), Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun): Pronounced jing (falling tone), the pronunciation is the same as jing. It means to stop and be at peace.
Also in the Commentary of Gongyang (Gongyang Zhuan), 12th Year of Duke Wen: Pushing off responsibility and being eloquent, skilled at fabricating words. He Xiu’s annotation: Jing is the same as the meaning of to compose or fabricate.
Also the same as the character for quiet. In the History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), Biography of Cui Yin: Quietly and deeply contemplating extremely profound principles. Annotation: The same as the character for quiet.
Also refers to the name of a type of small person. In the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing), there is a country of small people named the Jing people. Guo’s annotation: Some write it as jing. In the Liezi, Tang Wen chapter: The Jing people are nine inches tall.
Also a posthumous title. In the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Annals of Qin: The crown prince of Duke Wen passed away, and was bestowed the posthumous title of Duke Jing.
