Zi Collection, Middle Volume. Radical: Person (rén). Jìng. Kangxi stroke count: 10. Page 108, Number 09. Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): Initial qú and final yìng, pronounced like jìng. Strong — Analytical Dictionary of Characters (Shuowen). Also in Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): Initial lì and final ràng; and in Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun): Initial lì and final zhàng, pronounced like liàng. Distant. The word bèng means jìng — Book of Rites (Liji). Commentary: Jìng is equivalent to suǒ (to search). Jìng is sometimes written as liàng. Also in the Five Classics Characters of the Kaiyuan Era (Kaiyuan Wujing Wenzi): Read in the departing tone of qiáng, with initial qí and final liàng. Strong. Holding a heart without contention — Book of Odes (Shijing). Also: Without contention among the people. Nowadays both are written as jìng (to contend).
