According to the Analytical Dictionary of Characters (Shuowen), it means greedy. In the Book of Documents (Shangshu), the passage mentions greedy and malicious conduct occurring daily. In the Fisherman chapter of the Zhuangzi, it states that those who enjoy managing great affairs and changing established norms to seek fame are called greedy. In the Biography of Liang Ji of the History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), it refers to greedy and malicious violent behavior. Additionally, in the Biography of Lu Zhi, it mentions falsely claiming credit for heaven-sent success as one's own achievement.
