Pronounced zhi (entering tone). Meaning firm or solid. Also refers to a state of being foolish, describing a dull or stagnant appearance. It also refers to the Zouwu, a type of mythical animal. Great Commentary (Dazhuan) refers to it as the Zhi beast. Later, people mistakenly used the character 侄 in place of the character for nephew.
