According to Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), Jiyun, and Yunhui, it is pronounced with the fanqie spelling chuáng jù qiē. According to Zheng Rhyme (Zhengyun), it is pronounced with the fanqie spelling zhuàng zuò qiē, indicating the qù tone.
Shuowen (Shuowen Jiezi) says: To assist. Composed of the radical Strength (lì) and the phonetic component *qiě*.
Guangyun says: To benefit.
Book of Changes (Yijing), Xici Commentary: "What Heaven assists is compliance."
Also, in the Rhyme Supplement (Yunbu), it rhymes with chuáng jǔ qiē. In Yang Xiong's Tai Xi Shou: "Gathered to eat, chewing, benefiting like a dance. Gathering their wings, friends assist."
