Chou Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Woman (nǚ) Yuan Kangxi strokes: 13 Page 268, Entry 37 Tang Rhymes (Tangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), and Rhyme Meeting (Yunhui) define the pronunciation as yuan. Shuowen Jiezi says: A woman of the State of Tai, the mother of Qi of the Zhou dynasty. Book of Odes (Shijing), Odes of Lu: Radiant is Jiang Yuan. Also pronounced lun (rising tone). Book of Odes (Shijing), Greater Odes: At the first birth of the people, it was Jiang Yuan. Note: Yuan, yuan, and yuan are all in the thirteen yuan rhyme group and are interchangeable. The Zhengzitong (Correction of Character Errors) states that the rhyming of Zhu Xi was incidental and incorrect.
