"Yuán" in Tang Yun, Ji Yun, and Yun Hui, pronounced "yú yuán" cut, sound "yuán".
Shuowen Jiezi: High and flat land is called yuan, a place for people to ascend.
Erya, Shidi: A vast wilderness is called ping, broad and flat land is called yuan.
Zhou Li, Diguan, Dasitu: Distinguish the names and products of mountains, forests, waters, marshes, hills, low-lying areas, and plains.
Liji, Yue Ling: In the season of Mengxia, order officials in charge of fields to inspect the fields and plains, and to comfort the farmers for the Son of Heaven.
