Pronounced yu (falling tone).
As stated in the Analytical Dictionary of Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it refers to a mother. According to the Biography of Yan Yannian in the History of the Former Han Dynasty (Qian Han Shu), the five brothers of Yan Yannian were all high-ranking officials, and their mother was titled Mother of Ten Thousand Shiqing (a title of high status).

As stated in the Record of Music (Yueji) from the Book of Rites (Liji): "To warm and cherish, covering and nurturing all things." The commentary notes that heaven warms them with its vapor, and earth nurtures them with its form. It is also defined as an elderly woman.
