According to Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), and Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui), the pronunciation is yan. According to Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is yan. A barrier constructed to block water and form a dam is called a yan.
In Record of Luoyang (Luoyangji) by Yang Quanqi, it is stated that the Qianjin Dam is located west of Luoyang city, and above the dam is the Gu River embankment.
In the Poem for the Third Day of the Third Month (Sanyuesanri shi) by Shen Yue, it is written: East out of the Qianjin Dam.
