The Shuowen Jiezi (Shuōwén Jiězì) states: "A county name in Yingchuan (Yǐngchuān)." The Zhengzitong (Zhèngzìtōng) states: "This is the ancient land of the State of Yanzi (Yǎnzǐ), now Yan County (Yǎnchéng Xiàn) in Xuzhou (Xǔzhōu), Kaifeng Prefecture (Kāifēng Fǔ)." Also, according to the Guangyun (Guǎngyùn), it is the same as 鄢 (yān).
