According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it is pronounced xi. It is a common variant form of the character for split or analyze (xi). The Corrected Dictionary (Zhengzitong) states it is the same as the character for split or analyze (xi). It is also pronounced xi (rising tone).
In the Master Yang's Great Mystery (Yangzi Tai Xuan Jing), it is written: The constant and the changing are intertwined, therefore all matters are split (xi). The commentary states: The meaning is that various things are dispersed.
It is also the same as the character for break or fold (zhe). In the Canon of Elemental Changes (Yuan Bao Jing), it is written: The carriage is broken (xi). The commentary states: The carriage is broken, meaning the vehicle has fallen apart and disintegrated.
Note: The Tang Dynasty Dictionary (Tang Yun) records the pronunciation as xi, and the Dictionary of Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) records the pronunciation as xian. The character form using the wood radical is written as such, and is identical to the character for split or analyze (xi), meaning there is no original character for this specific form.
