Pronounced qiu.
Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen) defines this as a larva. Erya: Explaining Insects states that this is a wood-boring grub. The commentary notes it lives inside wood. The subcommentary states: The Book of Dialects (Fangyan) says that in the regions east of the passes it is called a grub, and in the Liang and Yi provinces it is called a wood-boring insect. Because it is white and long when found inside wood, poets use it as a metaphor for a woman's neck. Book of Odes (Shijing), Odes of Wei: Her neck is like a white, soft grub. Piya: The grub has a body that is full, smooth, and white. Qibian says: A neck like a grub, light and beautiful, graceful when turning to look, this is it.
