Book of Documents (Shangshu): Follow the ways of the former kings, follow the methods of the former kings.
Book of Etiquette and Ceremonial (Yili): Among the grand masters, there are those who follow the teachings of rites and music, and they enter by the left side of the gate. Commentary: This refers to those who act as grand masters in the villages, capable of using rites and music to educate the people so that they follow and emulate them; thus, they are called followers.
