Pronounced man.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), it is an iron trowel. It is the same as man (a variant form). According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), it is a plastering trowel. According to the Erya, a glossary of ancient terms (Erya), a man is called a wu. The commentary states it is a plastering trowel. The sub-commentary explains that a man is a plastering trowel, also known as a wu, which is a tool used by plasterers for smoothing walls.
It is also written in a variant form (man). According to the Mencius (Mengzi), to ruin tiles and paint the plaster.
According to the Dialects (Fangyan), in the regions between Eastern Qi, Qin, and Jin, the large ones are called manhu. The commentary states this is what is now called a jīmínggōu (rooster-crowing hook).
